Cheddar village with its famous caves is only a couple of miles away. Cheddar Gorge boasts some of the most spectacular scenery in the country, which may be viewed from an open top bus in the season. Apart from the caves, there are numerous attractions in the gorge including the Cheddar Cheese Company, Jacobs ladder, Crazy golf and a wide variety of shops. Eating places are plentiful and varied, including small cafes, traditional pubs, restaurants including Chinese and Indian Cuisine.

Only minutes away from Cheddar is historic Axbridge, with its museum and King Johns Hunting Lodge.

Wells and Glastonbury are both within less than half an hours drive and are well worth a visit. Places of interest in Wells include the Cathedral and Bishops palace, and nearby Wookey Hole caves. Glastonbury has the Tor, Abbey and Chalice Well to visit, along with many unusual shops which keep alive the magic and mystery of the town and its mythical associations with King Arthur.

Within a similar distance is Weston -s- Mare, an ever popular seaside resort. The Sea Life Centre is well worth a visit, along with the more usual attractions such as The Pier and beach, but the town also has an excellent shopping centre. Other seaside towns nearby include Burnham on Sea and Clevedon.

Apart from interesting towns and villages, this part of Somerset has the benefit of widely varied countryside, where walkers can enjoy both the spectacular views from the Mendip hills, and within a very short distance, the contrasting Somerset Levels.
